Painting X is an exhibition that takes place to ask the simple question: What is a painting? This exhibition is the prologue to exploring different aspects of painting, either artist’s point of view or perspectives on contemporary art in Thailand. Painting X collects the artworks of painters who work in Thailand and explore the possibility of expanding the scope of meaning of the painting. Through 200 pieces of various painting styles and approaches by 25 Thai and international contemporary artists.

“This body of work began with an interest in overlooked fragments of memory, images we often scroll past without noticing. Sourced from the internet and digital platforms, these pixel-based images are reinterpreted through the slow, tactile process of oil painting. Working with a limited palette, I focus on restraint and precision to create a deliberate contrast between the ephemeral nature of digital imagery and the physical weight of painted surfaces.

Rather than opposing digital images and painting, I am interested in what emerges when they inhabit the same space. When familiar online visuals are translated into oil on canvas, something shifts in temporality, presence, and attention. This act of recontextualization invites new ways of seeing and asks what remains when the speed of the screen is interrupted by the slowness of the hand.

While my previous works often reflected on political history, class, and personal memory rooted in the past, this series looks ahead. It questions where painting stands in a world saturated by images that move fast, disappear quickly, but linger in our collective subconscious.”
